I want to share with you my personal experience of knee joints pain.I needed to do regular exercise at least 3 times a week running about 4km each time to maintain my health after having been afflicted by asthma.
As I am 56 years old,this was a tremendous strain on my knees and resulted in painful experience on both my knee joints.I had to maintain my exercise regime, yet my knees were giving me trouble.
I heard of glucosamine and that it has to be taken orally.There are expected side-effects like gastrointestinal problems when it circulates through the body.I did not want to have these side-effects. Then I chanced upon a glucosamin cream which needs to be apply only externally.
I decided to try this out since it can be applied directly and externally on the joints.The glucosamin will be absorbed directly through the skin and to the affected areas.
There was no visible improvement when I started using it for the first 2 weeks.I was getting sketical of that it would work. However, one has to be patience and apply the cream religiously for at least 4 weeks for it to be fully effective. The knee joints need time to allow the cream to repair and promote the growth of the cartilage.So do not expect immediate results. It worked for me as I am now able to continue my running exercise without the agony of joints pain !

Osteoarthritis, sometimes referred to as wear-and-tear arthritis or degenerative joint disease.This refers to the deterioration of the cartilage between the joints. Osteoarthritis affects more than 20 million people in the United States.Osteoarthritis is prevalent in men under 45 years and prevalent in women after 65 years.
The primary form of osteoarthritis is usually related to aging, but osteoarthritis can also result from injury (athletes), obesity or repetitive joint use.Secondary osteoarthritis can develop as a consequence of another disease or condition.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic disease which may also affect other organs of the body including the skin, lungs, heart, and kidneys.

Scientists Have Discovered How Cartilage of Joints Are Destroyed
THURSDAY, Sept. 4 2008, (HealthDay News) — Researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center have discovered proof of how cartilage are destroyed.This finding could lead to preventive treatments for a disease that the main cause of disability and affects millions of aging Americans.
Little was known about the mechanism of how cartilage in the joints at cellular and molecular level.Previous research suggested that higher levels of signaling protein called beta-catenin were associated with osteoarthritis (OA), but there was no direct evidence to confirm that link.Researchers have also found abnormal level of beta-catenin in cartilage cells from patients severely affected by arthritis.
The University of Rochester Medical Center team genetically engineered mice with high levels of beta-catenin and found the mice lost most of their articular cartilage — the protective layer that covers the ends of bones within joints. The mice also developed the same bony growths and microfractures that occur in people with OA.
"We have created the first model in a living animal that shows exactly how osteoarthritis causes damage. That, of course, puts us in position to interfere with the processes that contribute to the damage in a new and powerful way," study author Dr. Di Chen, an associate professor in the department of orthopedics, said in a university news release."
Further research are being conducted on how mechanical loading and meniscal injury are related to cartilage destruction and the growth of cartilage into bone.

What is glucosamine?
Glucosamine is one of the primary building blocks of cartilage and is essential for maintenance of healthy cartilage. It also results in the stimulation of synovial fluid production, which lubricates and cushions our joints.

Are there any special precautions to take ?
